Fergus Whelan was born in Dublin in 1955.

An historian with a focus on the history of radicalism, Protestant Dissent and the United Irishmen, his first book is Dissent Into Treason: Unitarians King-killers and the Society of United Irishmen (Tralee, Brandon Books/Mount Eagle Publications, 2010).

He lives in Dublin, where he works as a trade unionist.
