Tom Murphy (Thomas Murphy)
Tom Murphy was born in Tuam, Co Galway, in 1935.
His works have been performed and broadcast widely in Europe and the US. He has worked closely with the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, and the Druid Theatre Company, Galway.

Arthur Maginnis Story (Dunlaoighre, The Pavillion Theatre, 1986); On the Inside (The Abbey Theatre, 1984); Famine (The Abbey Theatre, 1968); A Crucial Week in the Life of a Grocer's Assistant (The Abbey Theatre, 1969); The Morning After Optimism (The Abbey Theatre, 1971); The Sanctuary Lamp (The Abbey Theatre, 1975); The Blue Macushla (The Abbey Theatre, 1985); Conversations on a Homecoming (Galway, The Druid Theatre, 1985); The Gigli Concert (The Abbey Theatre, 1983); A Thief of Christmas (The Abbey Theatre, 1985); Bailegangaire (The Druid Theatre,1986);The Patriot Game (The Abbey Theatre, 1991); The Wake (Dublin, The Abbey Theatre, 1998); Too Late for Logic (The Abbely Theatre, 1999); The House (The Abbey Theatre, 2000); and Alice Trilogy (London, The Royal Court Theatre, 2005).
He has published one novel, The Seduction of Morality (London, Little, Brown and Company, 1994).
He is a a member of the Irish Academy of Letters, and Aosdána. His papers have been acquired by Trinity College Dublin.
He lives in Dublin.
