Kate Thompson was born in Halifax, Yorkshire, in 1956.
She has published one collection of poetry, There is Something (USA, The Signpost Press/Galway, Salmon Poetry, 1992); and three adult novels, Down Among the Gods (London, Virago Press, 1997); Thin Air (London, Sceptre, 1999); and An Act of Worship (Sceptre, 2000).
She has published a number of children’s novels, including Switchers (Aran Publications, 1994); Midnight’s Choice (London, The Bodley Head 1998); Wild Blood (The Bodley Head, 1999); The Missing Link (The Bodley Head, 2000); Only Human; The Beguilers (The Bodley Head, 2001), The Alchemist’s Apprentice (The Bodley Head, 2002); The Switchers Omnibus (Red Fox, 2004); Annan Water (Bodley Head, 2004); The New Policeman (Bodley Head, 2005); The Fourth Horseman (Bodley Head, 2006); and The Last of the High Kings (Bodley Head, 2007).
The New Policeman was Winner of The Guardian Children’s Book Prize, the Whitbread Children’s Book Award and the Dublin Airport Authority Children’s Book of the Year Award for 2005.
She lives in Galway.
