Thomas Flanagan

Thomas Flanagan was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA, in 1923.
A high school friend of Truman Capote, he was professor of English literature at Columbia, and later at Berkeley. His speciality was Irish literature, and he visited Ireland every summer over a period of forty years.
His historical novels include The Year of the French (New York, Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1979/London, Macmillan, 1979); The Tenants of Time (New York, Dutton/Plume, 1988/London, Bantam Press, 1988); and The End of the Hunt (New York E. P. Dutton, 1994/London, Sinclair-Stevenson, 1995).
His non-fiction included (with Christopher Cahill and Seamus Heaney) There You Are: Writings on Irish and American Literature and History (New York Review Books Collections, 2004). He died in 2002.
