Sam Burnside
Sam Burnside was born in Co Antrim.
His long poem, Cathedral (Freehold Press, 1989), won The Sunday Tribune/Hennessey Award of that year. This was followed by Walking The Marshes (Cliffs of Moher, Salmon Poetry, 1990); Horses (Ballagh Studios, 1993), a handmade book with woodcuts by the Canadian artist Tim Stampton; and Fahan Mura (Belfast, Lapwing Press, 1995); and A Will to Remember: Poems (Belfast, Linen Hall Library, 2003)
He is represented in The Great Book of Ireland, and in The Crazy Knot (1996), a collaboration between Ulster writers and artists.
He is a member of the Northern Ireland Arts Council, a trustee of Derry City Theatre Project, and Director of The Verbal Arts Centre in Derry, where he lives.
