Michael Harding was born in Cavan in 1953. In 1980 he received the Hennessey Literary Award for short stories. He has published two novels, Priests (Blackstaff Press, 1986), and The Trouble With Sarah Gullion (Blackstaff Press, 1988). His first play, Strawboys, was produced in the Peacock Theatre, Dublin, in 1987. His plays since then include Una Pooka (The Peacock); Misogynist (The Abbey Theatre, Dublin); Hubert Murray's Widow (The Peacock); The Kiss; Backside to the Wind; Where the Heart Is; Buying Brian Boru, and Sour Grapes (Peacock, 1997). Amongst his awards for theatre is The Stewart Parker Theatre Award. He was Writer in Association with the Abbey Theatre in 1993. He is a member of Aosdána, and lives in Cavan.
