Gerard Mannix Flynn was born in Dublin in 1957.
His work has dealt with such issues as institutional abuse, imprisonment and injustice. In 1977 The Liberty Suite, co-written with Peter Sheridan, was premiered at the Dublin Theatre Festival with Gerard Mannix Flynn as the protagonist.
Nothing To Say, a novel was published by Ward River Press (Dublin, 1983).
As well as an author, he has been a
professional actor in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
He who laughs wins (1981) was one of a series of six half hour plays commissioned and produced by Paines Plough Theatre Company, England. Inside was co-written for RTÉ in 1986; Hunger and Thirst, written for Red Rex Theatre Company was performed in Italy in 1989. Talking to the Wall was commissioned by the Abbey Theatre in 1990: it was performed by the author at the Edinburgh Festival in 1997, where it won a Scotsman’s Fringe First Award.
His screenplays include: Twist of Fate, a screenplay based on the Kerry Babies Case, commissioned by Trisquare Films, Pinewood, London in 1998; in 2001 a screenplay, Alma Mater, based on the novel Nothing to Say was developed with the support of An Bord Scannán na hÉireann. HIs play, James X, brings to conclusion a 10 year work-in-progress which began with Talking to the Wall. It was published in 2003 by Lilliput Press along with a reissue of his first novel Nothing to Say.

He is a member of Aosdána and lives in Kerry.
