Louie Bennett
Louie Bennett was born in Dublin in 1870, and studied singing in Bonn before becoming a journalist,
suffragette, trade union official and novelist.
Her novels are The Proving of Priscilla (London, Harper 1902); A Prisoner of His World : A Tale of Real Happenings (Dublin, Maunsel 1908).
She helped establish the Irishwoman’s Suffrage Federation in 1911, was involved in 1913 Lock-Out Strike in Dublin, and was elected first woman President of Irish Trades Union Conference. She was also elected to the executive of the Irish Labour Party, 1927.
She died in Dublin in 1956.
